Black Eyed Peas


Try this quick and easy Black Eyed Peas Recipe! It is a popular Turkish style side dish using apple cider vinegar as the main flavoring. For this recipe, I used canned peas, so there is no cooking involved other than a few minutes in the microwave.

If you do not want to use canned beans, I included the recipe using the dry beans below. I got this recipe from my mom who does not use canned beans, but since I am busy, this is the best option for me. This is a must try recipe as it is a perfect side dish that complements for most main course dishes!






You will need the following for this Black Eyed Peas Recipe:

  • 2- 15oz Cans of Black Eyed Peas
  • 3 Cloves of Garlic, Minced
  • Handful of Parsley, Chopped
  • 1 T. Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Salt to Taste

Don't like Apple Cider Vinegar? Substitute Lemon Juice instead!

Serve with fish, chicken or beef dishes!




Preparation

To prepare this dish, start by opening and draining two cans of black eyed peas. Place in a microwavable safe container and cook in the microwave on high for about 2 minutes, then rinse under cold water. Set the bowl aside to allow it to cool.  While you wait for the beans to cool, mince 3 cloves of garlic and chop a handful of parsley. In a bowl, mix the beans, parsley, and garlic. Add 1 T. of Apple Cider Vinegar, then add the salt. Make sure to mix thoroughly, then taste it. Depending on your taste, you may want to add more salt and/or apple cider vinegar, if desired.

If you prefer to use dry beans, they will need to be soaked overnight and cooked until soft, about 45 minutes or so, then follow recipe as listed.
