Menu Planning Basics

Menu planning may be the actual spot some of you are most frustrated with since it may be time consuming to figure out what you want to eat for the week.
Better yet, you may be thinking "What makes me think I may want to still eat that on Wednesday"? My method of creating a menu various from others because I don't create a menu to include breakfast and lunch.

My menu planning style also does not fit certain days of the week, i.e. fish for Monday, steak on Tuesday, etc..

I create a weekly menu based on what my schedule will be like in the upcoming week. For example, if my upcoming week seems to be a hectic one, I will stick with quick, basic meals.

If I know I will have time to prepare more complex meals, I will create a menu reflecting that.

Also, to avoid leading a robotic life, I don't write down what day of the week I'll eat what. I go with what I feel for the day.

I try to eat meals that have fresh ingredients at the beginning of the week to ensure freshness, but other than that, I'll pick and choose what I want the rest of the time.

So really, the only meal I actually plan is dinner. As a result, I created a method that will save me time, energy, and money.

I never plan for breakfast or lunch. I have a set menu for these two meals and have them on my menu planning staple list and I have them in the pantry at all times. This way, I can pick and choose what I want to eat and drink without spending too much time.

Besides, I hate to plan every little thing I'll eat for breakfast, down to what I'll be drinking. NO WAY!! My style of planning is very flexible and forgiving.

You know what you like to drink whether it's milk, orange juice, etc. Place those items on your "Staple" list. For lunch, I usually have leftovers or a can of soup.

I avoid eating out at all cost in order to save money. An occasional splurge will not harm anyone!
